Use a hinge binding tool hinge doctor to repair binding hinges.
Another hint is to use a long screw in one of the holes in the top most hinge long enough to penetrate the stud.
Apply screws just above and below the marked measurements to help hold the frame tight and help guide the cutting.
The door is pulled open just past the point where the hinges bind.
Be careful not to cut too deep into the frame.
This may include covering over any wood stains left by the hinge.
Sagging doors are often the result of loose hinges caused by hinge screws that don t bite into the door jamb.
These tools slip over the hinges when the door is closed.
Inspect the door hinge and look for where it is loose or hangs off of the door or doorjamb.
Bore out and plug each of the remaining stripped screw holes the same way.
Inspect the hinge to see if it is missing the pin which is the long metal rod that holds the two halves of.
Test the hinge on the latch side a door is cut at a slight bevel to make it easier to close.
Once the wood is the right size glue the inward facing side and then press it into place.
Then reposition the hinge leaf and bore 1 8 inch diameter pilot holes.
Wait at least an hour.
Many problems with frames and doors can be fixed by adjusting the hardware.
Try tightening the hinges which can loosen up over time causing the door to sag.
Hold until the glue starts to dry.
Carefully cut the damaged frame away at the marked measurements.
Attach it using your hammer and a nail or two.
Step 2 insert a shim into the cutout.
If you have a centering hinge drill use the hinge as a template and the finish repair will be better than new and last for years.
If one is loose remove two or more screws and try driving in longer screws.
After time the weight of the door will pull on the hinge and cause the door not to hang straight.
A quick fix for this problem is to fill in the door jamb s so the screw will remain secure.
When the wood glue is dry sandpaper the edges until the cover is flush with the side of the door frame.
Spread carpenter s glue onto a 3 8 inch diameter x 1 inch long wood dowel and tap it into the hole until it s flush with the jamb.
